Spring Prep for Your Land Rover: What to Check After Winter

After months of cold weather, icy roads, and winter grime, spring is the perfect time to get Land Rovers ready for a new season of driving—whether it’s for everyday use or holiday adventures. A bit of post-winter maintenance goes a long way in keeping these capable vehicles running smoothly, safely, and efficiently.

Here’s a practical checklist to help prepare any Land Rover for the warmer months ahead.

1. Swap Out Winter Tires

Once temperatures rise, it’s time to change from winter tires to summer or all-season ones. Warmer weather can wear winter tires down quickly, and summer tires offer better handling and fuel efficiency. While swapping, it’s a good idea to:

  • Check tire tread for wear

  • Adjust tire pressures (they often drop during colder months)

2. Check All Fluids

Winter can be hard on fluid systems, so it’s smart to check levels and condition:

  • Engine oil – Cold weather can cause oil to thicken or break down.

  • Coolant/antifreeze – Keeps the engine from overheating as temps rise.

  • Brake fluid – Should be clean and at the proper level for safe braking.

  • Transmission fluid – Helps the transmission run smoothly.

  • Washer fluid – Handy for springtime bugs, dirt, and rain.

3. Inspect the Drivetrain and Oil Lines

Land Rovers are built for rough conditions, but winter still takes a toll. A good spring check should include:

  • Looking over drive oil lines for any signs of leaks or wear

  • Checking differentials and transfer case for proper fluid levels

  • Listening for strange noises during turns or acceleration

4. Test the Battery

Cold temperatures can drain a battery’s power. It’s a good idea to test the battery’s strength and clean off any corrosion around the terminals. If the engine was slow to start during winter, it may be time for a replacement.

5. Check the Suspension and Undercarriage

Road salt, potholes, and slush can affect suspension components and lead to rust underneath the vehicle. A quick inspection can catch issues like:

  • Worn bushings

  • Loose suspension parts

  • Corrosion starting on the frame or undercarriage

6. Replace Cabin Air Filter & Test the A/C

Spring allergies are no joke, and a fresh cabin air filter can make a big difference in air quality. It’s also a great time to test the air conditioning system—before the hot weather arrives.

Start the Season Off Right
A spring service check helps ensure Land Rovers are ready for wherever the road—or trail—leads next. It’s all about driving with confidence and keeping the vehicle in top shape for the season ahead.
