Welcome to this week’s comprehensive Jaguar & Land Rover NewsBlog, where we cover the latest updates from Land Rover’s global media newsroom and the broader industry developments affecting vehicle owners and service providers.
Below is everything owners should know — from new Defender programs to exciting models, community projects, recalls, and JLR’s recent cyber-attack losses.
1. Defender Trophy: The First Competitor Selected for 2026
Land Rover has officially chosen Naoki Imamura of Japan as the first entrant for the 2026 Defender Trophy, an all-new global adventure competition inspired by the iconic Camel Trophy era.
Participants will take on rugged terrain, teamwork challenges, and conservation-focused missions in partnership with Tusk.
This event strengthens Defender’s heritage and signals renewed focus on off-road capability, adventure culture, and classic-model appreciation.
2. Defender Celebrates the 45th Anniversary of the Camel Trophy
Land Rover marked 45 years of the original Camel Trophy with a special event at Eastnor Castle, featuring historic vehicles, modern Defender builds, and a celebration of brand identity.
Land Rover Classic introduced new Defender Trophy apparel and collectibles tied to the anniversary.
For owners, this reinforces the brand’s commitment to heritage — something that drives interest in classic Defender restoration and specialized servicing.
3. Nonprofit Heroes Win the 2025 Defender Service Awards
Six nonprofit organizations across North America were honored with custom-built Defender 130 vehicles for their community work.
The announcement took place at Destination Defender West in California — a growing flagship event celebrating the Defender lifestyle.
This initiative positions Defender as both a capable vehicle and a symbol of purpose-driven work.
4. Range Rover SV Black Debuts With Luxury & Innovation
Land Rover introduced the Range Rover SV Black, combining a 606-HP V8 engine with modern design and world-first features like the “Sensory Floor,” which integrates audio transducers into the carpet for immersive sound.
The deep black exterior finishes, premium veneers, and exclusive materials highlight the ongoing push toward high-end luxury personalization.
This model will require precision maintenance — especially regarding electronics, suspension systems, and bespoke SV components.
5. 2025 Defender Lineup Receives New Upgrades
The Defender 90, 110, 130, and OCTA receive refreshed styling, interior updates, and technology improvements — keeping the lineup modern, rugged, and competitive.
These updates signal continued support and innovation for the Defender platform.
For service shops, this means new calibration needs, updated diagnostics, and additional trim/tech configurations to support.
6. Major Backup Camera Recall Issued for Multiple JLR Models
A significant recall was recently issued due to backup camera malfunctions tied to an infotainment system glitch. The issue causes the central screen to shut off unexpectedly, disabling the legally required rear-view camera.
Affected models include select recent:
Range Rover
Range Rover Sport
Land Rover
Jaguar models with specific infotainment configurations
Why owners should care:
Backup cameras are mandatory safety equipment.
Vehicles may fail inspection or safety checks if the camera doesn’t function.
Software updates or module replacements may be required.
7. JLR Reports £485M Quarterly Loss After Cyber-Attack Shutdown
Jaguar Land Rover announced a £485 million loss for the quarter ending in September after a major cyber-attack halted production for more than a month.
The attack:
Shut down JLR’s computer networks
Prevented factory operations through September and early October
Reduced production by approximately 27,000 vehicles
Disrupted parts supply to service centers
Added £196 million in direct cyber-related support costs
Contributed to a 24% revenue drop, from £6.5bn to £4.9bn
The shutdown also deeply affected UK suppliers, some of whom were forced to temporarily suspend operations.
Government-backed loan guarantees of up to £1.5bn were offered to support the supply chain.
Current status:
All JLR facilities are now operating at or near full capacity, and supply flow continues to stabilize.
