Hot Weather = Hidden Problems

How Summer Heat Can Affect Your Land Rover

When the summer sun is blazing, it’s not just people that feel the heat — your Land Rover does, too. While warm weather might seem ideal for off-road adventures and scenic drives, high temperatures can reveal or worsen hidden mechanical issues. At TRS Automotive, we want to help you understand the risks and stay ahead of potential problems.

1. Cooling System Stress

Your engine works hard, and in hot weather, it works even harder. If your radiator, hoses, or thermostat are aging or clogged, the cooling system can’t do its job properly. The result? Overheating, reduced performance, and possibly major engine damage.

Tip: Have your coolant checked and your entire cooling system inspected before temperatures peak.

2. Battery Breakdown

High heat accelerates chemical reactions inside your battery, which can lead to slight seepage around the post which can lead to post corrosion or even failure. A weak battery might work fine in spring but struggle — or die — during a heatwave.

Tip: Test your battery’s voltage and look for any corrosion on the terminals.

3. Tire Trouble

Hot pavement and under-inflated tires are a dangerous combination. As temperatures rise, so does tire pressure, which can cause uneven wear or, worse, blowouts on the road.

Tip: Check your tire pressure regularly, especially after long drives or sudden temperature changes.

4. Air Conditioning Issues

Nothing spoils a summer drive faster than a failing A/C system. Weak airflow or warm air from your vents could signal a refrigerant leak, worn compressor, or clogged filter.

Tip: Get a full A/C performance check — it’s a small step that can prevent a sweaty nightmare later.

5. Hidden Fluid Leaks

Increased pressure and heat can worsen existing leaks in oil, transmission fluid, or coolant lines. You might not notice them in cooler months, but summer will expose them quickly.

Tip: Keep an eye out for puddles under your vehicle and check fluid levels frequently.
